My poor baby April

This weekend was a bit stressful. One of my dogs, April, was attacked by a Great Dane. She will be ok, but it was very scary to see this "horse" come around the corner and just attack my 25 lb dog for no reason.

I wish that we could do a Vulcan mind meld and figure out what they are thinking or why they do certain things, because you know they can't tell us.

Anyway, a trip to the emergency vet (couldn't reach ours) and my baby looks like Frankenstein. She definitely had a guardian angel looking out for her because there was no damage to the organs.

It'll be a long recovery but at least she is still alive.

I really need to update my website/blog

I've been thinking about it and just haven't gotten around to it....or maybe I'm just procrastinating because I'm not sure what I want to do with my site.

I at least updated my book blog, that is one down and more to go.

I guess I'll go search for some wordpress themes since I'll be making that transition in the near future

Where has the summer gone?!

As I sit here typing, it is nearly the end of July which means August is right around the corner and nearly the end of summer. Now in Texas, that isn't a bad thing because of the heat. Of course right now we have had some rain (yeah!) but that means humidity (boo).

I'm in the process of trying to update my website and blog and have moved my book review blog to a new site - Storeybook Reviews. Come check it out some time, I'm pretty impressed with it and am liking the whole WordPress thing!

Walk for Autism Speaks

While spending 4 days (or so) at convention in Denver, I learned more about our new philanthropy Autism Speaks.

I did not know that 1 in 150 children are diagnosed with this disease each year and 1 in 94 boys are diagnosed. I also learned that autism will touch more lives than AIDS, diabetes or cancer yet it is the most underfunded disease of the bunch.

And so I will be walking for Autism Speaks on November 14th and I am asking for donations or for people to walk with me and my sorority, Alpha Xi Delta.

If you wish to donate, you may donate here and choose to donate under my name or the team as a whole. I'm not picky, I'll take any donation to anyone on my team.

If you live in another area of the country and happened to have stumbled across my blog, consider finding a walk in your area. You can visit this link to find the one closest to you.

Convention - what a blast!

I just returned from national convention for Alpha Xi Delta in Denver. I had such a good time! I met many people I have chatted with online, reconnected with sisters I hadn't seen in awhile, and just enjoyed the nice weather (compared to Texas' weather which was over 100). There were several thunderstorms, but those didn't last long.

I tried to get on a flight before mine but no luck. However my luggage made that flight (figures!). So when I arrived in Dallas I had to go from terminal C to terminal A to retrieve my luggage. It was there waiting for me and we headed back home.

I love traveling but I love being at home too. I'm glad for my time in Denver but I'm happy to be home too.

Flashback to the past

I was doing some catch up reading of my Guideposts magazines when I came across an article about retro aprons. I immediately thought of my sorority sister, TxPoppet, because she is all things retro!

Surprisingly this site isn’t blocked at work (yet) and I have to admit that I even covet an apron or two because even though I don’t wear them while cooking, I really should and it might save a shirt or two from food splatters.

The aprons are made of a wide variety of fabrics – those that are ok to cook in and those that are meant to be worn for serving only (they are just too pretty to wear while cooking)

The site is called Heavenly Hostess and here are some of the aprons you could find on the site! And they are made for us curvy gals too.

They can be ordered on line or they are available in some areas. In fact they are offered in the DFW area at The Cupcakery in Frisco (cupcakes are a whole 'nother post!)

My new addiction

I realized that I have an addictive personality....well somewhat. When I find something new I like I want to have as much of it as I can.

My latest is Blue Diamond almonds with sea salt. These are delicious because there isn't a lot of oil used to roast them and there is just a hint of sea salt (which is so much better than salt anyway!)

They can be a bit pricey, but when isn't something good a bit costly?! However, I have some $1 off coupons and I'm looking for sales. I thought there was one going on at Tom Thumb but it wasn't for these but for my other almond addiction, Lime & Chili almonds (Bold flavors!). They are just a little tangy, enough but not too much!

If you like almonds, try these out!
